The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in good condition. With very minor surface wear consistent with age. Presents very well as a group.
Large framed example: 113⁄4 in. high, 13 in. wide, 3 in. deep
- The frame with scattered light nicks, faint marks and scratches. With some losses to the ebonized decoration mainly to corners. The plaque with some minor light surface scratching. With some light abrasions to the tesserae in the water bowl, and some possible restoration to the left side of bowl. Not examined out of frame.
Scalloped dish: 4 in. high, 91⁄4 in. wide
- With very minor surface wear to the wells of the dish as a result of use. With some possible light restoration to the outer edge of the left side of mosaic. With some minor abrasion to the upper right field of the sky. The reverse with adhesive residue.
Rectangular example with scenes of Rome: 41⁄4 in. high, 7 in. wide
- With some light scattered nicks and faint surface wear to slate primarily at edges. With some slight wear and possible minor loss to the upper right scene of Hercules' tomb.
Shaped example with scenes of Rome: 4 in. high, 51⁄4 in. wide
- With some light scattered nick, 'nibbles' and faint surface wear to slate, primarily at edges. With some minor restoration and infilled repair to each, including scene of the Coliseum with some losses and subsequent restoration around the upper field.
The shaped example with dove: 33⁄8 in. high, 47⁄8 in. wide
- With some faint surface, scattered small nicks and 'nibbles' wear to slate primarily at edges. With some losses to the tesserae in the dove's wings and around its eye. Possibly with some restoration to the feathers in each wing. With a paper label to reverse.
The rectangular example depicting a temple: 3 in. high, 41⁄4 in. wide
- With some faint surface, scattered small nicks and 'nibbles' wear to slate primarily at edges. With some wear along the edge of mosaic and some subsequent small losses. With paper label and sticker to the reverse.
The shaped example with Parthenon: 3 in. high, 41⁄8 in. wide
- With some faint surface, scattered small nicks and 'nibbles' wear to slate primarily at edges. With some wear along the edge of mosaic and some subsequent small losses. Possibly with some restoration along the left edge of the fountain. With a paper label on the reverse.
The smallest shaped example: 2 in. high, 31⁄8 in. wide
- With some faint surface, scattered small nicks and 'nibbles' wear to slate primarily at edges. With some minor wear along the edges of mosaic and possibly some loses along the lower portion.
