Rectangular, the base on four bracket feet, cast and chased with strapwork and logs, further decorated with three champlevé enameled trompe l'oeil embroidered table runners, supporting three trompe l'oeil containers shaped as izbas with detachable roof covers, with a pen holder shaped as two stylized cockerels, marked throughout with Cyrillic maker's marks 'P.E.D.' and 'P.D.'

Lot Essay

A similarly modeled silver double inkwell formed as two izbas or dachas on a platform, originally in the collection of Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973), is in the collection of the Hillwood Estate, Museum, and Gardens, Washington D.C. (cat. no. 12.121.2-3).
