After a model by Paul de Lamerie circa 1742-1743, the baluster body and domed cover richly cast and chased with scrolls, flowers and fruiting vine, the body with scenes of Bacchic putti clutching grapes and preparing wine, flanked by vine-wrapped and snail-capped branch handles, a griffin's head crest engraved below one handle, the cover with putti and a grape-bunch finial surmounted by a lizard, the rim of the cover engraved Croxteth Cup, Liverpool, 1889. Won by "Castlenock" Five Years., marked between handle terminals and on cover interior, the foot rim engraved J.W. BENSON. 25. OLD BOND ST. W 917
