Lot Essay

The present lot was modelled after 'Portrait of Tsarina Elisabeth Petrovna on horse' by Georg Christoph Grooth (1716-1749), currently held in the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow (museum no. 17035).

Another example, though lacking the attendant is illustrated by Ulrich Pietsch, Meißen für die Zaren, Munich, 2004, p. 57, no. 46.
