Lot Essay

Judith Solodkin of SOLO Impression notes the composition started out as seven in bed, and only later did Bourgeois add herself at the far left to make eight. The shape of the bedframe, which is inspired by Man Ray's well-known image of lips, was embossed by Solodkin using a cardboard template she cut out in the shape of the famous lips.
