Judith Solodkin of SOLO Impression notes there were eleven artist's proof sets of the full portfolio, What is the Shape of this Problem?, numbered 1 through 11, and six additional artist's proofs of each individual sheet numbered 12 through 17.

"The text in this series was taken from Bourgeois's diary entries, spanning some forty years. The images are based on drawings created in the 1990s. Printer Judith Solodkin of SOLO Impression made photo-enlargements of the drawings and transferred them to letterpress plates." (Deborah Wye, Louise Bourgeois: The Complete Prints & Books, Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2018).
