Four Seasons Landscapes
A set of four scrolls, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper
Each scroll measures approximately 32.8 x 32.8 cm. (12 78 x 12 78 in.)
Each scroll entitled, inscribed and signed, with a total of twelve seals of the artist
All dated winter, jiwei year (1979)
Four frontispieces by Ding Zhipan (1894-1988), with a total of six seals
Two dated twelfth lunar month, jiwei year (1979)
FURTHER DETAILS
The collection belongs to the Edwin Suib family from the United States. Edwin Suib (1924-2012) was born in Brooklyn, New York. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. After being discharged in 1945, he enrolled at Princeton University. His first job was with Reliance Manufacturing, after which he moved into importing and became the executive vice president of Men’s Wear International. He spent a significant amount of time in the Far East and was among the first to conduct business in China in the early 1970s.
