Lot Essay

William Orme worked up the drawings of other artists for engraving, and is particularly known for engraving the work of Thomas Daniell (1749-1840) in India. For example, in 1805 a book was published in two parts called A Brief History of Ancient and Modern India, from the earliest period of Antiquity to the Termination of the Mahratta War, 'the whole edited and engraved under the direction of Edward [William] Orme'.
