The surface is stable and there is minor surface dirt present. The canvas is unlined. There is slight waving near the lower edge. There is minor scuffing at the extreme edges due to frame abrasion. There is craquelure throughout with some areas where the paint is beginning to separate near the cow's legs and to the left of the figure. Under UV light inspection, there is a small area of retouching in the sky about three inches from the top and above the cow's head. There is a thin one inch line of retouching in the cow's chest, a two inch vertical line in his proper right foreleg, and a small area in the ground beneath the cow's front legs.
