Vasily Andreyevich Zhukovsky (1783-1852)
Receipt signed. 1826
Receipt signed ('Basile de Joukoffsky'), Hamburg, 14 June 1826.

In French. Partly printed, completed in manuscript. Pencil annotation, 'N. 13', at upper left.

Arriving on his second European tour. A receipt for the sum of 1,396 marks and 13 shillings from the bankers De Chapeaurouge & Cie for the account of A.P. Duval J. Seguin Cie of Saint Petersburg.

Zhukovsky had just arrived in Germany on his second European tour: he was shaken on arriving to hear of the death of his close friend Karamzin. From Hamburg he proceeded to Ems, where he formed a close friendship with the artist Gerhart Reitern – whose daughter he was to marry 15 years later.
