From Panyu, Guangdong province, Zhang Junhua was a poet and calligrapher, whose siblings included Zhang Wanhua, Zhou Enlai’s first secretary during the Cultural Revolution, and Zhang Shaoshi, whose paintings resulted in his appellation ‘Peony King’. Besides being known as an expert in distinguishing authentic artworks, Zhang Junhua was a collector of ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, among which are many original works by his good friend Zhang Daqian.
