The canvas has been subject to relining. It is held under tension and remains stable. Te painting presents well in natural light. There is a fine pattern of craquelure, especially to the dark background. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching to the pale tones, especially to the left of the sitter's nose and her chin, and in her sleeve. Scattered minor retouching to the dress and hair. The varnish prevents further examination. The paint is stable. The delicacy of modeling and colour are fully appreciable.
