PASQUALIGO, Pietro (1472-1515). Ad Hemanuelem Lusitaniae regem oratio (caption title). Venice: Bernardino Vitali, 22 December, 1501.

First edition. The Venetian ambassador's first-hand report on his travels with Gaspar Cortereal to Greenland and the eastern coast of today’s Canada. The only copy in the records of RBH belonged to Sir Leicester Harmsworth; this is possibly the same copy, also in red morocco by Riviere. Not in Harrisse, but note Harrisse 48 for a description of the contents when this speech was re-printed in book six of Montalboddo's 1507 compendium. See also: Weinstein, Donald. Ambassador from Venice, Pietro Pasqualigo in Lisbon, 1501. Minneapolis : University of Minnesota Press, [1960], including a full English translation. EDIT16 CNCE 69067.

Quarto (205 x 155mm). 4 leaves, decorative initial (tiny marginal wormholes). Red morocco by Riviere, lettered in gilt, all edges gilt (wear to spine, endleaves browned). Provenance: earlier foliation – two unidentified typed catalogue descriptions tipped in to inside front cover, one in English and one in Portuguese.
