The first map of the Americas with decorative borders, Burden's state 1. This attractive border incorporates town views and explorer portraits along the top and bottom edges and depictions of eight American Natives along the left and right. These include, Cuzco, the Roanoke town of Pomeiooc, a fort in Carolina, Cartagena, Potosí, and Havana. Burden 182, state 1 ("very rare").

Double-page engraved map, 468 x 571 mm sheet size (some small repaired chips from lower portion of margin outside of neatline except a tiny bit at lower left corner, light wear to centerfold, short closed tear and a small pale dampstain in lower left border). Matted. Provenance: Sotheby's, 29 April 2014, lot 81.
