Second edition biography of Portuguese admiral and governor of Portuguese India. Afonso de Albuquerque, the second Viceroy of India, was the founder of the Portuguese Empire in the East, having conquered Goa in 1510. The accounts of his travels were compiled by his son (of the same name) from records sent to King Manuel I and were first published in 1557. Adams A 568; Anselmo 222.

Folio (266 × 185mm). Three woodcut illustrations including Albuquerque’s arms as Duke of Goa on title-page, historiated woodcut initials (light toning and spotting, repairs in E3, E4, G7 and K8 with few smaller marginal repairs elsewhere, S7 and S8 stained). Modern brown morocco by Brugalla, covers panelled in blind with cornerpieces in blind, lettering on spine in gold, board edges and dentelles in gold, edges gilt (hinges and bottom edges rubbed). Leather-edged slipcase.
