[WILLIAM OF TYRE (c.1130-1186).] The History of Godefrey of Boloyne and of the Conquest of Jerusalem. Translated by William Caxton. Hammersmith: Kelmscott Press, 27 April 1893.

Charles Eamer Kemp-Doheny copy of the Kelmscott Press edition of an important historical work translated by Caxton. It contains "a profusion of ornaments, many of which were engraved by Keates. The larger printer's mark was also used for the first time" (Peterson). This copy bears the bookplate of Charles Eamer Kemp, who was inspired by William Morris to abandon his plans to become an Anglo-Catholic priest and instead become an artist. Peterson A15.

Quarto (286 x 292mm). Printed in black and red, in Troy and Chaucer types. Full-page engraved title, numerous decorated borders and initials (occasional light toning). Contemporary limp vellum with silk ties. Provenance: Charles Eamer Kempe (1837-1907, Victorian designer and student of William Morris, engraved bookplate) – Estelle Doheny (morocco label on flyleaf).
