FLACIUS, Matthias (1510-1575) et al. Ecclesiastica historia integram ecclesiae Christi ideam. Basel: Oporinus, 1564; 1560-1574.

Complete text of the Magdeburg Centuries, a Reformed ecclesiastical history and landmark of European historiography. Including the famous story of Pope Joan. First editions except for the first volume, which is in the third edition. This set, composed by Matthias Flacius and his colleagues, is divided into centuries and covers the whole history of the church up to 1298 with a Lutheran flavor. It is notable for its attention to primary sources and critical approach to evaluating them—although the editors did include some anti-Catholic legends, such as the famous story of Pope Joan. VD16 E 230 (first three parts).

Thirteen parts in eight volumes, folio (322 x 198mm). Each part with title page and woodcut printer's device (some foxing and toning). Modern half calf, edges red with remains of fore-edge titles. Sold as a set (not subject to return).
