[Colton, George Woolworth. 1827-1901.] Map of the United States of America, the British Provinces, Mexico, the West Indies and Central America with part of New Granada and Venezuela. New York: J.H. Colton. New Orleans: John Ball. Charleston, S.C., 1852.

Handsome wall map of Gold Rush era United States. This very large wall map is an updated version of G.W. Colton’s map of the same name, first published in 1848. The borders of the western territories are kept current, and the Gold Region is named. See Wheat Gold Region 74.

Hand-colored engraved map, 857 x 1060mm sight size, cartouche and vignettes also hand-colored, with two inset maps and an elaborate grape-vine border incorporating 12 vignettes of American sights. (Mild darkening, some rubbing affecting a few letters near folds, light restoration to folds, chiefly in Atlantic and affected a small area cartouche.) Archivally matted, framed and glazed to 46 x 53 inches.
