MILTON, John (1608-1674). Poems, &c. upon Several Occasions … with a small Tractate of Education to Mr. Hartlib. London: [William Rawlins?] for Thomas Dring at the Blew Anchor, 1673.

Second edition of Milton's poetry, with the first printing of his sonnet on blindness. The polyglot poetry of Milton's university years, in both English and Latin, was first published in 1645. This collection contains four poems not included in the first. There is another issue of the title page, also from Thomas Dring, but locating him at "the White Lion." ESTC M-2161A.

Two parts in one, octavo (160 x 102mm). Title in double rule, separate title for Latin poetry. Without 4pp. booksellers' ads at end. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Milton (portrait cropped close, D2 with small repair resulting in loss of a few letters, some browning). 20th-century brown morocco by Fazakerley, title gilt on spine, edges gilt (light wear at extremities). Provenance: "EN," possibly initials, written into some signatures – Dukes of Arenburg (armorial bookplate) – Philip M. Rhinelander, 1869-1939, Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania (gift inscription from Henry Sears dated May 1915).
