An early 19th-century example of fore-edge painting, featuring five men within a frame of bricks and mortar, probably inside a cathedral, leaning forward in intimate discussion beneath a hanging oil lamp.

Large quarto (317 x 237mm). Fore-edge painting, possibly signed "A.R." (a little faded, small surface scratch). Early 19th-century green morocco gilt, red morocco inlayed border and central panel (some rubbing at extremities).
