MELVILLE, Herman (1819-1891). Moby-Dick; or The Whale. New York: Harper & Bros., 1871.

Rare fourth edition, unsophisticated. This is one of only 277 copies printed of this modestly produced fourth edition—a rare survival. Not in the Reese collection. Tanselle, Checklist of Editions of Moby-Dick, p. 8.

Octavo. (Pages toned, tiny adhesion affecting copyright page.) Original green cloth, spine gilt-lettered (light rubbing, upper hinge cracked, corners just showing). Provenance: Louis C. Greene (neat early ownership inscription to title).
