A striking example of early Chanel design attributed to master maker Louis Rousselet, this rare demi-parure captures the Maison’s fascination with bold color and movement in the mid-1930s. Cascading tassels of ruby-red and crystal glass beads frame luminous faux pearls and hand-set strass crystals, all wired by hand in the meticulous artisanal technique associated with Rousselet’s Paris workshop. Pieces of this complexity were produced in very limited quantities for Chanel’s couture clients, and similar models are preserved in the Chanel Archives and published in early costume-jewelry scholarship. A vibrant and theatrical creation, it exemplifies the exotic, bijoux-de-fantaisie spirit that defined Chanel’s prewar jewelry.
