Lot Essay

The present painting represents an usual form of the goddess Kali, wielding a bow and arrow with two of her four-arms. Her remaining hands carry two of her more common attributes, including her sword and a severed head. The sword represents divine wisdom and the head represents human ego, which must be slain by divine wisdom. Her unruly hair radiates from her body, which is covered and gold and precious gemstones, rather than a garland of severed heads.
