拍品专文

Regarded as the female bodhisattva, Tara is one of the most widely worshipped female figures of Buddhism – a savior-goddess who is revered for the protection and guidance she offers on the path toward enlightenment. Tara exists in 21 forms, each representing specific qualities or actions, with the Green Tara, being one of the more commonly depicted, associated with protection from fear.
Seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus beaded base with her pendent right leg supported by a lotus blossom, the present Tara lowers her right hand to touch her knee in varadamudra and raises her left hand in vitarkamudra. She is dressed an ankle-length dhoti, with the hems beautifully incised with foliate patterns and an extra scarf draped over her shoulders. Her elegant body is richly adorned with beaded jewelry, including layered necklaces, sets of bracelets and anklets. Her face is gently lowered in a benign expression with a serene smile. Her hair is piled in a high chignon and topped by an exquisite foliate tiara.
