Lot Essay

Gene Moore joined Tiffany & Co. in 1955 as a window display designer, becoming famous for his avant garde windows and relationships with contemporary artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. Over his 39 years with the firm, Moore decorated more than 5,000 windows, and is regarded as the most important window designer of the twentieth century. In addition to his iconic windows, Moore designed fanciful items such as the circus figures offered here. Pieces from his circus collection are illustrated on the cover Gene Moore's My Time at Tiffany's.
