Lot Essay

Founded in 1921, the American Orchid Society has been the beacon for enthusiastic hobbyists and professional growers in the appreciation of orchids. Their mission to promote and support the passion for orchids through education, conservation, and research has touched many and is a testament to the organization’s longevity.

2021 marks the Centennial anniversary of the American Orchid Society’s incorporation and members are preparing for their October celebration. Ms. Barbara Jean Ansley was a long term member and ardent supporter of the Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society and has generously bequeathed the three floral brooches (lots 200 – 202) to the AOS to help in the continuation of their many programs for its community. Ms. Ansley had many other interests and traveled extensively and has visited every continent except Antarctica.

Her gift will help the American Orchid Society in their continued efforts to educate, to support research, to preserve and perpetuate the orchid species, and extend the appreciation for this glorious flower.
