Lot Essay

David Hicks told his son Ashley that he saw this horse's head being carved at the Red Fort in Agra, whilst he was there circa 1972, to replace a broken Mughal original. He bought it on the spot and shipped it back to England, where he installed it in the Long Room at Britwell on a steel pedestal of his own design.
