The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. There is a marked pattern of craquelure across the paint surface, most noticably to the pale passages. There has been some thinning to the paint layers in the modelling of the face. There are some minor scattered paint losses to the upper left-hand corner. The paint remains stable. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching to the craquelure and some further minor scattered retouching. There is a discoloured varnish. The painterly approach to the composition remains appreciable.
