La sculpture allie naturalisme et abstraction. L’artiste a délicatement accentué les traits raffinés du visage et le volume rond de la tête, tandis que le reste du corps est rendu de manière schématique et géométrique. Contrairement à d’autres statues fang, dont la posture est rigide et symétrique, la tête ici est légèrement inclinée vers la gauche, contribuant ainsi, par ce subtil mouvement, à la dynamique et à la vivacité de l’œuvre.

Stylistically this elegant figure comes closest to, and possibly was the male companion of the female figure formerly in the Malcolm collection, once Paul Guillaume’s and published as early as 1929 by Adolphe Basler (L’art chez les peuples primitifs, Paris, 1929, pl. 42b). The sculpture is characterized by naturalism and abstraction alike. The artist accentuated here with delicacy the refined features of the face, and the round volume of the head, while the rest of the bodily shape is captured in a schematic, geometric way. Unlike other Fang figures whose stance is symmetrically rigid, the head here is slightly inclined to the left, contributing thus with its subtle movement to the overall dynamism and vividness of the work.
