« Bien que les arts plastiques congolais tendent à montrer des figures statiques, certains peuples du sud du Congo ont une préférence pour les figures en mouvement. La thématique la plus commune est celle du musicien, du joueur de corne, de sanza ou de xylophone, mais surtout du joueur de tambour. Ce dernier est l’un des préférés du peuple Mbala, mais aussi du peuple Tschokwé, dans la partie Ouest du Congo et dans toute la partie Est du Congo, comme chez les Nkanu de la région du Kimvula. »

“Although the Congolese plastic art tends to show more static figures, some peoples from southern Congo have a preference for moving figures. The most common theme is the musician, the horn-blower, the sanza or xylophone player, and, most of all, the drummer. This last one is a favorite in the Mbala tribe, but also in the Chokwe tribe, the Western Kongo area, and the whole of the Eastern Kongo area, such as the Nkanu from the region of Kimvula.”
