The 1855 Massachusetts State Census lists Clemente Angeles Valdez, 11, and his brother, Jose Hdeforse Valdez, 10, as living in Lexington, MA, both born in Cuba, living in the home of Eliphalet P. Crafts, 54, and Augusta Crafts, 46. There were nine others in residence with them, the oldest being Emily Crafts, 22. Separately, one Jose Valdes, age not given, arrived in New York in April 1850 in the steamship Southerner out of Charleston, S.C.
