A MARBLE FIGURE OF A 'BAIGNEUSE', BY ANTONIO GARELLA, AFTER A MODEL BY ÉTIENNE-MAURICE FALCONET

Well-known throughout Europe, Falconet's models were particularly popular in Italy, where a tradition of reproducing classical masterpieces continued during the 19th and 20th centuries. As is the case with this Baigneuse sculpted by Antonio Garella (1863-1919). He copies the Baigneuse made in 1757 by Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) and now in the Musée du Louvre (inv. MR 1846).
