The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to an historic reline. It is held under correct tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable.

Examination in natural light shows a large hole to the original canvas below Saint Francis’s proper left hand that measures approximately 4 x 3 cm. The paint surface is very dry and has a pattern of craquelure with some associated lifting and losses. These include a small loss to the paint, at upper right to the right of Saint Francis’s forehead, a second small loss in the background in the lower right hand quadrant, and and some further losses along the lower right at the lower edge. A red wax seal has been applied to the lower right hand corner.

Examination under UV light is prohibited by a thick cloudy varnish, however there is evidence of some strengthening around Saint Francis‘s head and in his facial features.

La toile a fait l'objet d'un ancien rentoilage. Elle est correctement maintenue sous tension sur un châssis à clés et reste stable.

L'examen à la lumière naturelle montre un grand trou dans la toile d'origine sous la main gauche de Saint François, qui mesure environ 4 x 3 cm. La surface de la peinture est très sèche et présente un motif de craquelure avec quelques soulèvements et manques associés. Il s'agit notamment d'un petite manque de peinture en haut à droite du front de Saint François, d'un deuxième petit manque à l'arrière-plan dans le quadrant inférieur droit, et de quelques autres manques le long du bord inférieur droit. Un sceau de cire rouge a été appliqué dans le coin inférieur droit.

L'examen à la lumière UV est rendu impossible par un épais vernis opaque, mais il y a des signes d'éléments renforcés autour de la tête de Saint François et dans les traits de son visage.
