Le tableau est peint sur une toile ayant fait l’objet d’un rentoilage un peu fort. La présence de matière picturale le long des quatre bords cloutés au châssis indique qu’il s’git d’un fragment provenant d’une composition plus importante. Le tableau est sur un châssis rapporté, à clés.
A l’œil nu, les deux lapins se présentent dans un joli état même si le rentoilage susmentionné a contribué à l’amincissement des couches de matière supérieures sur leur pelage, parfois associé à des restaurations ponctuelles. Les feuilles de choux ont également perdu de la matière dans les couches picturales supérieures. D’anciennes restaurations ayant viré sont visibles ponctuellement dans les fonds et sur le sol – parmi celles-ci, une restauration plus importante ayant viré au rouge est visible le long d’une trace horizontale d’approx. 5 cm. Le tableau présente un réseau de craquelures assez sec mais stable. Un petit manque ayant été comblé est visible à gauche des oreilles du lapin de droite. Le tableau est sous un vernis sec ayant légèrement chancis par endroits.
A l’UV, l’examen révèle une campagne de restauration plus récente dans le coin supérieur gauche et révèle davantage la restauration horizontale susmentionnée, s’étendant sur approx. 18 cm à partir du bord gauche. Celle-ci correspond probablement aux marques de châssis. Le tableau est sous un vernis non homogène.
La matière reste stable.

The canvas has been subject to quite a strict reline. The presence of paint along the four edges studded to the stretcher indicates that this is a fragment from a larger composition. The painting is on a keyed stretcher.
In natural light, the two rabbits appear to be in good condition overall, although the aforementioned relining has resulted in the thinning of the upper paint glazes in their coats, with some associated scattered retouching. The cabbage leaves have also lost some upper paint glazes. Historic scattered restoration that has discoloured with age is visible in the background and on the ground, including one restoration to a horizontal restoration of approximately 5cm. in length, that has discoloured to red. The paint has a fine network of craquelure that remains stable. A small loss with associated restoration is visible to the left of the ears of the rabbit on the right. The painting is under a dry varnish that has slightly blanched in places.
UV examination confirms the above observations and further reveals a more recent restoration campaign in the upper left corner. The paint remains stable.
