The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage un peu fort, qui a pu tasser la matière par endroits. Il est sur un châssis rapporté à clés. Le support reste stable.

A l'œil nu la matière possède un réseau de craquelure assez prononcé. On constate des zones de restauration ayant viré dans le ciel, les volcans, la mer et les architectures. Il tout est sous un vernis irrégulier, avec quelques zones plus mattes que d'autres.

A l'UV on constate les anciennes restaurations susmentionnées, notamment dans le ciel à gauche, ainsi que les restaurations plus récentes, principalement dans la mer à gauche et dans le ciel à gauche à 12 cm. du bord supérieur. Plusieurs campagnes de restaurations et de nettoyage peuvent être distinguées. On constate plusieurs tests de nettoyage dans la partie gauche des architectures, et en bas à gauche sous le pont. Traces de vieux vernis par endroits.

Les figures et les architectures sont dans l’ensemble bien préservées.

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable. The relining process has slightly flattened the paint surface in areas. The paint remains stable.

In natural light a fine network of craquelure can be seen across the painting. There is scattered retouching in the sky, volcano, sea and architecture, some of which has slightly discoloured with time. The varnish is slightly uneven, with certain areas more matte than others.

Examination under UV light confirms the above. The restoration in the sky is more pronounced, in the area approximately 12 cm. from the upper edge. There has been more than one campaign of restoration and cleaning. There are some cleaning tests that can be seen in the architecture to the left and at lower left. There are traces of old varnish.

Overall the figures and the architecture are well preserved.
