The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

A lumière rasante, on constate d’anciennes fentes.

The painting has been executed on an oak panel which has been cradled.
Examination under raking light reveals old splits to the panel. To the naked eye, we can see that the brown background has been strengthened in some parts. The painting may have lost some glazes during previous restoration campaigns.
Ultraviolet examination reveals that the painting is under an even surface, thick, green layer of varnish which precludes a more in depth examination of previous restoration campaigns. Some retouching along the splits is visible.
