Le tableau est sur sa toile d'origine. Il est sur un châssis rapporté. Le support est stable.
Le tableau a été réduit le long des quatre côtés.
A l'oeil nu, on constate des petits manques sur la joue gauche du modèle ainsi que dans le fond, à droite de son épaule, et dans le coin supérieur gauche. Le costume noir semble avoir perdu certains de ses glacis.
Le vernis semble avoir légèrement blanchi par endroits. Sous un vernis encrassé.
A l'UV, le vernis occulte d'éventuelles campagnes de restauration antérieures.
La matière reste stable.
Dans un cadre de style italien XVIIe, travail moderne (approx. 72 x 59 cm).

The canvas is unlined. It has been stretched on a later stretcher, it is held under correct tension and remains stable. The painting has been slightly reduced on each side.
In natural light there are some very minor scattered losses, one to the left cheek of the sitter, in the background to the right of his shoulder, and in the upper left-hand corner. There has been some loss to the upper paint glazes in the costume. There has been some slight whitening to the varnish in areas. The varnish carries some dirt.
UV examination of the painting is precluded by the varnish.
The paint layers remain stable.
