Spherical form, with six hinged segments engraved with alternate sections of figures and flowers, each compartment with sliding cover and engraved with the names 1-CANEL- B, 2-MUSCAT-B, 3-RUTEN-B, 4-SCHLAG-B, 5-NEGELKEN-B, 6-BERNSTEIN-B, the central column with two sliding covers to reveal two compartments with spoons, the screw- off top with suspension ring and the base with pierced grille, unmarked

The term pomander is derived from the French 'pomme d'ambre' and is used to describe a spice or perfume holder. These small objects were generally worn hanging on women's belts with their chatelaine and other small accessories. The pomander would be used to ward off bad odors and thus protect against infections. In its first form, the pomander would have contained a single amber ball then in the 17th century, it took on this segmented form.

Le terme pomander est dérivé du français pomme d'ambre et est utilisé pour décrire un porte-épice ou porte-parfum. Ces petits objets étaient généralement portés, accrochés à la ceinture des femmes avec leur châtelaine et autres petits accessoires. Le pomander servait à éloigner les mauvaises odeurs et à se protéger ainsi des infections. Dans sa première forme, le pomander aurait contenu une seule boule d'ambre puis au XVIIe siècle, il a pris cette forme à segments.
