Le tableau est peint sur un panneau de chêne qui est composé de planches assemblées horizontalement. Le panneau a été inséré dans un parquetage composé au revers de deux traverses verticales, chacune d'entre elles étant renforcée par quatorze taquets. Les bords du parquetage sont visibles au recto. On constate également un support de bois inséré verticalement sur toute la hauteur du panneau en son centre dont le placement est antérieur au paquetage. L'ensemble reste stable.

A l'oeil nu, on constate diverses légères craquelures horizontales au panneau, celles-ci partant notamment du coin inférieur droit. Ces craquelures sont stables, bien que certains petits manques y étant associés sont visibles. On constate quelques manques dans les glacis, tout particulièrement dans les figures à l'arrière-plan de la composition se tenant devant les escaliers dans la pièce derrière la pièce principale. Ces allégements de matière permettent d'apercevoir la préparation jaune dans la partie gauche du tableau, ainsi que du dessin sous-jacent, notamment à l'arrière-plan. Des retouches ponctuelles sont visibles dans les éléments d'architecture et les figures, notamment dans la figure de l'enfant assis au centre et dans les bleus de la figure féminine se tenant à droite. On constate des petits manques résultant de légers soulèvements dans la partie supérieure. Ces manques ont par la suite été comblés - cette observation s'applique également à la partie le long du bord inférieur où des retouches plus importantes sont visibles. L'ensemble est sous un vernis épais, sur lequel est visible une marque dans le coin supérieur gauche, qui empêche un examen plus approfondi à la lumière ultraviolette.

La matière reste stable. Le tableau a préservé de beaux effets qui restent très appréciables dans les modelés des carnations et dans les couleurs.

The painting is executed on an oak panel. This is made of horizontally joined boards. The panel has been inserted into a cradle that to the reverse is made up of two vertical batons, each supported by fourteen rectangular keys. The edge of the cradle is visible to the recto. There is a further inserted vertical wooden baton that runs the height of the panel in the centre that predates the cradle. The whole remains stable.

In natural light, a number of minor horizontal cracks to the panel can be seen, notably extending from the bottom right-hand corner. These remain stable, though some minor associated losses can be seen. There have been some losses to the upper paint glazes, most notably in the background figures standing before the stairs into the room beyond the main scene. This thinning allows us to see the yellow preparation layer to the left hand-edge of the painting, as well as some underdrawings, notably in the background. Scattered retouching can be seen in the architecture and in the figures, notably in the child seated in the centre and in the blues of the female figure standing to the right. There has been some slight lifting to the paint surface in the upper part which has resulted in some minor losses to the paint. These have been subsequently stabilized with some infill, this is also true along the lower edge of the painting where more extensive retouching can be seen. The whole is under a thick varnish, which carries a noticeable mark in the upper left-hand corner, and which precludes a more in-depth examination under UV light.

The paint remains stable. The depth of colours and the modeling in the faces of the principal figures remain fully appreciable.
