Please note that Matisse drew this composition on two seperate sheets of paper, which are hinged together at the top and bottom, on the reverse. The joined sheet is itself hinged at the upper and lower corners on the reverse to the mat backing with archival tape.
Left sheet: Edges deckled.Two tiny tears to the lower left edge and one small tear to the right upper edge, as well as some additional nicks to the edges in places. Faintly light-stained and mat-stained. A few pinpoints of foxing. A small circular scuff mark off the upper center left edge, between her feet. Diagonal crease along the left lower edge, as well as some handling creases at the edges in places. No restorations detected. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that the work is in overall very good condition.
Right sheet: Edges deckled. Light-stained and mat-stained. Pinpoints of foxing and staining, most notably to the right of her arm and to the upper left corner. Two flattened diagonal creases to the left lower half of the sheet, as well as some faint handling creases at the edges. No tears or restorations detected. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that the work is in overall good condition.
