BEATRIX POTTER (1866-1943)
Studies of mice
pencil and watercolor on paper
978 x 614 in. (25 x 15.8 cm)
Nine sketches depicting two or more different mice on a single sheet. Beatrix Potter studied many animals from life; she drew these mice in naturalistic poses on their hind legs and from a variety of angles. Their faces and gestures are reminiscent of Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb in The Tale of Two Bad Mice.
