Maurice Sendak prepared this sketch for the Cotsen Children's Library at Princeton University. The Cotsen is a major historical collection and research center, made possible by the gift of Lloyd Cotsen. Sendak's wonderful parade of characters was not used, probably due to copyright concerns over the 20th century characters. The parade features the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, and Humpty-Dumpty from Alice in Wonderland, Struwwelpeter, Mr. Toad from Wind in the Willows, Piglet, Eeyore and Pooh from Winnie-the-Pooh, the Wild Thing known as Moishe, and Babar.
