Pinocchio and Dutch Girl Puppet in "I've Got No Strings" sequence, from the 1940 film Pinocchio.

Walt Disney's Pinocchio was much beloved by Sendak and formative in terms of his early attention to children's narratives and to illustrations and animation more broadly.
