拍品的状况可能存在极大差异,而由于其性质使然,拍品难以处于完美无瑕的状态。拍品均以拍卖时的状况出售。
Gallant:
His right hand (the hand holding hers) is restored. The brim of his hat, and part of the yellow bow on his hat, have been restored – these are minor. There is some slight flaking to the turquoise enamel of his long-coat and some areas of wear to the gilding.
Shepherdess:
Her right forearm and the staff have been restored, and there is some restoration to her left hand and forearm. There is some slight chipping to the folds of the edge of her apron at the back of group (these are small and minor) and some areas of wear to the red enamel and gilding. There are some slight firing cracks to the hem of her skirt at the front – these are also minor.
Animals:
The dog’s right ear, the central sheep’s right foreleg and the left sheep’s left ear and right foreleg are probably replacements. These are a bit crudely done, and the forelegs in particular, would benefit from being restored again. The left sheep’s right ear is original but restuck.
Tree and base:
This has been broken through (possibly adjacent to the gallant’s hips) and restored. Various leaves and branches have been restored / replaced, and there is some restoration to some of the flowers and foliage. The right-hand corner of the base (behind the gallant and to the right) may have been broken through and repaired as there is over-painting to the base.
