The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This canvas is supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a clear, if slightly yellowed varnish and thin craquelure is visible throughout. Frame abrasions and associated restoration are visible on all four edges, but are largely covered by the frame. An area of craquelure in the sky at center has been retouched, and dark outlines in the foreground and middle ground have been strengthened to address sinking pigment. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restorations, and reveals additional retouching throughout the sky and in the foreground. The painting can be hung as is and is offered in a carved wood frame.
