This panel is comprised of three horizontally oriented boards. The joins of the boards have been supported on the reverse by small trapezoidal batons. Evidence of an old insect infestation is visible on the reverse. Beveling is present on the right, left, and lower edges of the reverse. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. The horizontal joins at upper and lower center have shifted with time and there is some cracking and restorations along both joins. There is a crack in the panel, just above the upper join, extending approximately 7 1/2 inches from the left edge towards the central vault. In raking light a campaign of restoration employing thin parallel strokes replenishes the darks in areas of shadow throughout the composition. Losses in the central vault have been delicately retouched. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirmed these restorations and revealed some additional retouching to the marble panel at far left. The painting presents nicely and can be hung in its present state. It is offered in a dark wood, Dutch-style frame.
