The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This large panel is comprised of three horizontally oriented boards of equal size and is supported on the reverse by a cradle. The upper panel joins have become visible with age and associated restorations are visible along each. Frame abrasions and associated small losses are visible at the extreme edges, but these are usually hidden by the rabbet of the frame. The paint layer is stable, under a varnish that has yellowed somewhat with age. In natural light a campaign of thin strokes of restoration address the woodgrain in the sky. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some additional strokes along the wood grain scattered in the landscape elements as well as some strengthening to the contours of the figures and trees in the foreground. The painting presents well and is offered in an ornately carved and gilt wood frame.
