This painting is executed on a panel comprised of a single board with a horizontal grain. Now dormant worm holes are visible on the reverse of the panel. The paint layer is stable, although slightly dirty, under a clear varnish. There is a craquelure across the surface along which are pinpoint losses, some which have not yet been repaired. Some repairs along the craquelure, especially in the sky and landscape, have discolored with age, as seen in the catalogue image. In natural light a repair over Cupid's thigh is visible. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed some strengthening to the fabric around Cupid and to the flag at upper right, as well as a few additional repairs along the craquelure. The painting presents well and is offered in a gilt and painted wood frame.
