The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on canvas that has been supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The paint layer is stable and has maintained some of the impastos, notably on the lemons. The surface is dirty under a varnish that has yellowed somewhat with age. There is a wide craquelure across the surface. There is abrasion along the edges, with some associated losses, most of this abrasion is concealed by the rabbet of the frame. Inspection under ultraviolet light is hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting presents well, but it appearance could be improved with a light surface cleaning and varnishing. The painting is offered in a carved and giltwood frame.
