The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This relined canvas retains a good tension on its stretcher. Examination under raking light reveals that the bold modelling of the artist is still highly appreciable. Inspection in natural light suggests minor wear to the paint surface and some minor retouchings; inspection under ultra violet fluorescence confirms that there are small flecks of retouching throughout, with slightly more substantial restoration to the eyes, left cheek, around the mouth and front right of the hair of the angel, some strengthening to the beard and the book of Saint Francis and repaired damages to his right hand and to a small section of the background in the upper right corner. Overall in very good condition. With an inscription to the reverse of the canvas: 'De Cristofaro'.
